WOMEN ON THE MOVE (Mission Statement) from SCENARIO TMA on Vimeo.
The 6th Annual Women on the Move HERstory Tour kicked off Wednesday, March 21st at NYU. With a panel of pioneering women such as Cat Greenleaf from NBC’s The Talk Stoop, stylist Rachel Johnson, NY staple and Publicist Susan Blond, Miko and Titi of Miss Jessie’s {the best darn curly hair product, period.}, MTV Executive Producer Tiffany Lea Williams, and Author Demetria Lucas. Aside from spreading their words of wisdom they lent hope to the students and young entrepreneurs attending the lecture by offering internships to their respected businesses. While Cat coined the term ‘emotional elegance’ as something she tries to practice when times become trying Miko and Titi shed a tear while hearing Victoria’s {a Women on the Move alumni} testimony of losing a Def Jam internship because she was busy juggling motherhood and a lengthy commute from PA to NY. Their ability to relate with the young women and be a source of inspiration confirmed our decision to make Miko and Titi the recipients of the 2012 Women on the Move award.
The next day we visited Middle School 217 in Jamaica, Queens and sitting on panel was Lea Sunshine, recent signee to G-Note Records, Jasmin Colon president of luxury grounds transportation company, Lilly Belle, USA, and Queens Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras. After the moderated discussion the students amazed the panel with their thought provoking questions and even got Lea to sing a capella.
The next day we closed the HERstory Tour in BK at Mott Hall Bridges Academy where Erika Ramirez from The Juice on billboard.com, stylist and DJ Radio Rose Garcia, and former Bad Boy recording artist Cheri Dennis aka Cheri Coke joined us on panel. While the panelists showed up ready to inspire they left filled with inspiration from the BK scholars.
