In celebration of The 49th New York Film Festival, indieWIRE held a FREE open forum featuring Spanish film director Pedro Almodóvar. As a fan of Almodóvar’s work I had to be present to hear what inspires him and why he decided to make his first Sci-Fi thriller, “The Skin I Live In.”
The conversation led by Richard Pena and posted below was entertaining and insightful. He mentions how Antonio Banderas’ character, the elusive and dark Robert, in The Skin I Live In and the open-hearted and vulnerable Pepa, played by Carmen Maura in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown are the two characters he finds to be more like himself. Interesting, since the dualities between the two would make them polar-opposites, yet, Almodóvar connects them through their passionate drive.
