Dick Cavett is one of television’s National Treasures. He had some of the most notable entertainers, intellectuals, and politicians along with unfamed guests on his show and was able to converse with the best and worst of them. Many consider Carson to be the “King of Late Night”, but Cavett is the Ace. I Archive’d the interview below because I love how three completely different personalities can harmonize a conversation perfectly. A few folks might find Groucho to be rude and domineering but I enjoyed the comedic jabs and slashes of wit between him and Truman. Plus, without Groucho we wouldn’t witness Truman’s patience and Cavett’s skill of orchestrating a conversation would be useless. Judge for yourself below.
Pt. 1
Groucho: “You’re pretty shifty aren’t you?”
Truman: “Elusive. Not shifty”
Pt.2
Truman: “Drinking and writing at the same time is impossible”
Groucho: “Unfortunately, I’m doing either”
